QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a registered nurse in the state of Oklahoma; Meets the Oklahoma State
Department of Education requirements for certification as a school nurse

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Must be flexible, communicate well with people of all ages and backgrounds; have good public
relations skills and teaching skills; must be able to maintain confidentiality.
2. Advises and assists in the treatment of ill or injured students and faculty.
3. Complies with the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act and utilizes guidelines from other professional
organizations.
4. Coordinates and provides health education programs for students according to state standards.
5. Participates in programs designed to promote professional growth.
6. Provides health education information to students, faculty and staff and provides training to
personnel.
7. Assists in the interpretation of health issues.
8. Assists in formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district.
9. Documents and reports suspected child abuse according to Oklahoma State Laws.
10. Advises administration regarding exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with
infectious and contagious conditions.
11. Serves as a liaison to community agencies and the medical community.
12. Assists school officials in assuring that students meet immunization standards as defined by law.
13. Makes necessary medical referrals.
14. Assists in the modification of the educational programs to meet the health needs of individual
students.
15. Participates in the development of the individualized education plan for special education
students as needed.
16. Participates in the development of 504 plans and the implementation of the plans for students.
17. Provides services to promote health for students and staff.
18. Assists unlicensed personnel in health related task.
19. Establishes and maintains adequate health records as required by law, District policy and
administrative regulations.
20. Designs and monitors procedures for administration and storage of all medication in accordance
with established guidelines.
21. Is actively involved in professional growth activities.
22. Accepts responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
23. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers.
24. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional activities and serves on
committees as required.
25. Abides by all district, state and federal laws, policies and procedures.
26. Performs other health-related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, stand, walk, or climb stairs.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Ability to operate computers, copy machine, and other office machines as needed.
