QUALIFICATIONS: As set by state certification authorities

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) with speech-language and hearing screenings.
2. Assist SLP with informal documentation as directed by the SLP.
3. Plans and prepares appropriate written individual education programs for qualified students.
4. Implements programs as directed by SLP.
5. Documents patient/client performance.
6. Trains and supervises professional and non-professional staff in the appropriate therapy needed to integrate services.
7. Confers and makes recommendations regarding augmentative communication devices.
8. Assists the SLP in providing periodic verbal and written reports and participates in eligibility, IEP and placement team meetings when appropriate.
9. Serves as a consultant to regular classroom teachers regarding speech/language related
services for IEP students in regular class.
10. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, materials available and needs and capabilities of the child.
11. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
12. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional activities, and serves on
committees as required.
13. Assists in the selection, and inventory of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
14. Completes reports and other school related paperwork as required.
15. Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
16. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress.
17. Is actively involved in professional growth activities.
18. Creates an effective therapy room environment that is conducive to learning and to the
developmental levels and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.
19. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of the IEP goals and, in harmony with these goals, establishes clear objectives and communicates these objectives to students.
20. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; and, for the therapy room, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
21. Maintains appropriate emotional stability, physical health, personal appearance and personality.
22. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy and
administrative regulations.
23. Maintains confidentiality.
24. Abides by all district policies and state and federal laws.
25. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently.
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
Ability to walk or move long distances from location to location around the building multiple times each day.
