PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes a leadership role in planning, developing, and initiating an effective developmental
guidance program for the school in cooperation with the principal.
2. Works with all concerned persons in assisting in understanding and appreciating the individuality
of each student.
3. Maintains a daily schedule of guidance/counseling activities.
4. Plans and leads small group and classroom activities designed to assist students to an
increased self-understanding and self-worth, as well as an understanding of others and an
appreciation of their worth and uniqueness.
5. Plans and leads classroom guidance units designed to assist students to an increased
awareness of self and others in the areas of character education, academic success, problemsolving,
study skills, effective communication, and career awareness.
6. Works to identify and help in proper placement of exceptional students and maintains
confidential and cumulative student records.
7. Works to identify students with social/emotional needs. Establish and coordinate support groups
correlating with the District Student Assistance Program Philosophy.
8. Works with students on an individual basis in developing coping skills and/or resolutions of
personal problems.
9. Assists in identifying and facilitating referral of children with serious problems to other school or
community services.
10. Interprets the guidance program to the community and provides community agencies with
information on the needs of youth.
11. Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of
services offered by the guidance department.
12. Counsels with parents toward meeting specific needs of their children and works with them to
develop a plan of action.
13. Confers with teachers, as a co-worker, in developing a plan of action in an effort to better meet
the needs of a student who is having educational, social, emotional or disciplinary difficulty.
14. Observes and studies pupil behavior in the classroom and other situations as requested in order
to identify needs for special guidance services.
15. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves
on committees as required.
16. Is actively involved in professional growth activities.
17. Completes reports and other school-related paperwork as required within stated timelines.
18. Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
19. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers.
20. Coordinates the distribution, administration and inventory of district and state-mandated testing
in accordance with state and local regulations as assigned by the building administrator.
21. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy and
administrative regulations.
22. Demonstrates stated criteria for effective counseling performance.
23. Maintains appropriate emotional control, physical health and personal appearance.
24. Maintains confidentiality.
25. Abides by all district, federal and state laws, policies and procedures.
26. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently.
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
Ability to walk or move long distances from location to location around the building multiple times each day.
