QUALIFICATIONS: Teacher Certification as set by state certification authorities. Master’s Degree and experience in school leadership preferred.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and/or designated administration
Contract: 245 Days
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the fine arts programs K-12 and the Performing Arts Center.
- Supervise all fine arts faculty and provide them with opportunities to participate actively in enterprises which affect them, their curricula and their students.
- Provide in-service teaching/training to staff. Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction. Assist staff in implementing new instructional ideas and strategies. Encourage leadership training; cooperation and communication between staff and other academic programs.
- Maintain atmosphere where creativity and performance can be accomplished.
- Maintain high standards of quality in every department of Fine Arts.
- Work with staff to develop a comprehensive curriculum for each of the fine and performing arts areas.
- Writes grants for fine arts programs. Administers such grants.
- Serve on advisory boards and other state and national organizations to keep informed on current trends in music, education and the needs of the fine and performing arts programs.
- Establish liaison between the Department of Fine Arts and community professional and universities.
- Observe members of the fine and performing arts faculty to provide feedback, ascertain needs and provide assistance.
- Work with community and parents to obtain support for fine art programs and to resolve concerns and/or problems that arise.
- Arranges for visiting artists and performers to present programs, workshops, and demonstrations to faculty and students.
- Establish fine art and performing art budget and administers both revenue and receipts according to district policy and procedures.
- Identify material and equipment needs and seek to assign priorities for meeting needs.
- Process purchase requisitions from staff.
- Keeps inventory of school owned musical instruments, equipment, music collections, etc.
- Assist Principals with staffing concerns for fine arts faculty members. Provide input concerning selection and placement of faculty members.
- Maintain a fine arts calendar and keep administration informed of all activities and special programs.
- Coordinate the planning of concert dates; summer music classes, etc.
- Coordinate the usage, upkeep, and care of the Performing Arts Center.
- Lead or assist in the coordinating, planning and implementation of recruiting activities for beginning band, choir, and theatre students.
- Diligently promotes fine arts programs through numerous avenues of communication.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Number of days and compensation based upon Board approved salary schedule and the employee work calendar.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently.
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
